FOI Bill now calendared for voting
MANILA, Philippines - Eastern Samar Rep. Ben Evardone said the House of Representatives Public Information Committee, which he chairs, has calendared for voting the Freedom of Information (FOI) Bill this August 7.
Evardone acknowledged that the window of opportunity for the bill to pass is very limited. He noted that there are several Congressmen against the bill and that one of the contentious issues is the right to reply clause.
He said that several congressmen want equal time, air time and space for the aggrieved party to reply to the issues against them.
He said that this issue still has to be ironed out in the committee.
Evardone said that if they fail to pass the FOI bill before the budget hearings, then it would be harder to pass the measure.
