MANILA, Philippines - The Palace reiterated that the President’s position on charter change has not changed but he is willing to listen to the views of those pushing for it, including Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte.

“Ang sinabi naman po ng Pangulo is it’s part of the democratic free space that he will listen to their side of the story. So at this point, we do not know if that can be changed or not. Demokrasya po kasi, makikinig po ang Pangulo. Hindi po natin alam kung ano po ‘yung magiging dulo but, again, the President has reiterated ‘yung kanyang position na hindi po ‘yan sa atin prayoridad,” Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said.

Valte said it depends with the President if he would sway his allies not to proceed with moves to amend provisions of the Constitution. She pointed out Congress is independent from the executive.

“Independent po ‘yan. They can move as they will,” she said.
