MANILA - A third impeachment complaint against President Benigno Aquino III is set to be filed Thursday.
ACT Teachers' Party-list Rep. Antonio Tinio said the impeachment complaint will center on the government's Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA) with the United States.
Tinio and Gabriela Women's Party-list Rep. Emmy De Jesus will endorse the complaint. The complainants include activists Carol Araullo and former Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casino.
The two other complaints were filed early this week. Bayan Muna and Anakpawis were the first to file on Monday, while Kabataan Party-list followed the next day. Both complaints centered on the unconstitutional Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).
The EDCA is also being questioned before the high court.
All complaints are expected to be referred by the plenary to the committee on justice of the House of Representatives when it opens its 2nd regular session next week.
The impeachment will just be one of many issues the lower House has on its plate. It is also expected to tackle the proposed 2015 national budget and the proposed Bangsamoro Basic Law.
Both are expected to be filed in Congress in the coming weeks.
Under the lower House's rules, all measures give way to the budget once it enters the plenary.
