MANILA -- One of the expected highlights in President Benigno Aquino III's fourth State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday is the signing of the wealth-sharing annex of the Bangsamoro framework agreement, a political science professor said.
Prof. Eric Daniel De Torres, chairman of the University of the East Department of Political Science, said only the Aquino administration has been able to move the talks between the government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) to this stage.
"Walang nakagawa nito sa mga nakalipas na administrasyon," he said.
De Torres said he also expects Aquino to trumpet the country's economic growth under his leadership as well as the anti-corruption and anti-poverty measures he has taken.
"Nakita natin na talagang very clear ang naging stand ng administrasyong ito pagdating sa anti-corruption measures," he said.
He added, however, that Aquino still has a lot of room for improvement.
De Torres said the President should focus more on securing the country's coastal waters and improving the government's disaster-preparedness.
"The challenge right now is to be prepared," he said.
