Charter change not PNoy's priority, Lacierda says
MANILA, Philippines - The position of President Benigno Aquino on charter change remains the same -- it is not a priority, Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said Thursday.
Lacierda, however, said the President is open to listening to the position of allies advocating charter change but said that there has been no schedule yet for the President to meet with Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and House Speaker Sonny Belmonte.
If ever there would be a meeting, it may happen after Aquino's State of the Nation Address.
"He was very clear with his position but it is important to hear the discussion of the allies as well," Lacierda said.
In an interview with ANC's "Inside Business," Aquino reiterated his stand against revising the Consitution.
"Let me put it this way, I dont think there's any reason for me to change my oft-stated position that I’ve not been shown whether by the legislature or now empirical data that says changing the constitution definitely will (be for) our people's benefit," he said.
