MANILA, Philippines - House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. denied that the ruling Liberal Party (LP) is recruiting en masse.
Belmonte said the LP has been very careful in recruiting members, pointing out that it only has 87 members in the lower House.
Belmonte said he has even advised others who want to join the ruling party to just form their own group and ally themselves with the LP.
On the other hand, Belmonte said it’s not good not having an opposition party in the country.
Vice President Jejomar Binay earlier said he is open to a “super coalition” between his United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) and the administration party.
"Okay iyon, ang sinasabi namin nang magkaroon ng UNA
candidates ay ang mabigyan ang mga kababayan natin ng opportunity para makapamili pa ng mga qualified and willing to work in government," he said.
San Juan City Rep. Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, UNA member and senatorial candidate, earlier suggested the possibility of a coalition since there is no “real opposition” to oppose the ruling party.
Ejercito later said he is appalled by Malacanang’s show of arrogance in criticizing his suggestion. – by RG Cruz, ABS-CBN News
