MANILA, Philippines - A foe of former Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Benjamin S. Abalos has been discharged as a co-accused in the electoral sabotage case before the Pasay Regional Trial Court.
A trial court spokesperson said Branch 112 Judge Jesus Mupas gave credence to former North Cotabato election supervisor Yogie Martirizar, who earlier implicated Abalos in the case.
Her request to become state witness has hampered Abalos’ request for bail.
Early last month, Abalos and his son, Benhur, did not finish the hearing before the sala of Mupas after the latter insisted on hearing the prosecution’s move to have co-accused Martirizar turn state witness.
Abalos told reporters after leaving the proceedings that he could not anymore “continue hearing what will transpire in a sham proceeding.” He said it was a “grave injustice, masyadong garapal [brazen].” – from a report by Johnson Manabat, dzMM
