MANILA, Philippines - How can the government catch a fugitive like retired Major General Jovito Palparan? A senator who was once a fugitive on Monday offered an advice: Focus on finding him.
"Eat Palparan for breakfast, eat Palparan for lunch, eat Palparan for dinner, at kung puwede sa snacks eat Palparan na rin," Sen. Panfilo Lacson said during a forum.
Palparan, who was charged for the disappearance of two University of the Philippines students in 2006, has been hiding from authorities since last year.
Lacson suggested that the government check Palparan's personal history and background to find clues on his whereabouts.
"There's a wealth of data available para masundan mo kung saan siya puwedeng pumunta," he said, adding that this would entail extensive intelligence work.
Meanwhile, Lacson supports proposals to cancel the passport of Delfin Lee, the owner of property developer Globe Asiatique (GA).
Lee faces arrest for syndicated estafa in connection with GA's Xevera project in Mabalacat, Pampanga.
"Basta walang legal complication sa pagkansela ng passport at naaayon sa batas, talagang dapat i-cancel para hindi siya makalabas [ng bansa] tulad ng ginawa ko," he said.
Lacson went into hiding for more than a year to evade arrest for the murder of publicist Salvador Dacer and his driver Emmanuel Corbito. He resurfaced in 2011 after the Court of Appeals lifted his arrest warrant.
Lacson has repeatedly insisted that he was innocent and that he hid from authorities because of persecution by the former administration of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
