MANILA - Former chief justice Renato Corona, who was removed from office allegedly after the Palace bribed senators with disbursement acceleration program funds, has dared Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno to answer President Aquino's attacks on the judiciary over the unanimous ruling declaring acts under DAP illegal.

"Sereno should react and defend the institution she represents. It’s her duty to do so,” he told The Philippines Star in a text message after the President's televised address.

Corona said his successor, who was appointed by Aquino in 2012 following his ouster after impeachment trial, should answer "personally and not through the SC spokesman."

Sereno voted with 13 other justices of SC - including three other Aquino appointees - in declaring DAP unconstitutional.

When Corona was facing impeachment trial, he warned that President Aquino wanted to control the high court.

In a televised address Monday night, President Aquino said government lawyers will seek a reversal of the 13-0 SC ruling declaring parts of the DAP as unconstitutional.

He also delivered a message to the Supreme Court justices.

"Ayaw nating umabot pa sa puntong nagbabanggaan ang dalawang magkapantay na sangay ng gobyerno."

Experts said the speech appears to show that the Chief Executive is ready to pick a fight with the Supreme Court.

"For awhile there I thought he was going to say, let us defy the Supreme Court. He was already saying that the Supreme Court is wrong, that all 14 justices cannot declare this unconstitutional," Philippine Star columnist Jarius Bondoc said.

"The President should have accepted the verdict of the Supreme Court and faced the people and he could have said we acknowledge the mistake...We did not steal and here's the proof...But up to now we still don't have an accounting to be subjected to an independent audit of this DAP."

Senator Joseph Victor Ejercito also scored President's attitude in the whole DAP debate.

"Ang naging attitude lately ng Pangulo, siguro dahil popular siya for the past 4 years, ay nagkaroon ng negative effect na parang kahit (ano) ay pwedeng gawin kasi popular sya for the past 4 years. Extended honeymoon eh." With a report by The Philippine Star
