MANILA -- Lawyer Jessica “Gigi” Reyes is now at the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Philippine Heart Center, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) said.
A doctor there confirmed the report, noting that several apparatuses are attached to Reyes at the moment to monitor her condition.
Reyes’ laboratory tests will continue until Monday, while the results will be released Wednesday or Thursday.
The Sandiganbayan earlier ordered Reyes’ transfer to the Camp Bagong Diwa. But she was rushed to the Taguig-Pateros District Hospital hours after arriving there on Thursday supposedly due to anxiety attacks.
The BJMP then decided to transfer her at the Philippine Heart Center in Quezon City after she complained of chest pains.
The BJMP clarified Reyes is paying for her hospital bills.
Protesters picketed outside the hospital saying Reyes is being given special treatment, pointing out that activist Andrea Rosal was not given the same attention, which later led to the death of her baby.
But Malacanang insists the government will not give special attention to high-profile inmates.
“Sumusunod ang pamahalaan sa mga utos ng hukuman hinggil sa kung saan idedetine ang mga sangkot sa mga kasong nililitis. Patuloy na sinisikap ng pamahalaan na magbigay ng patas na pagtrato sa lahat ng detainees,” Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said. – with reports from Henry Atuelan, dzMM
