MANILA -- Commission on Elections (Comelec) chairman Sixto Brillantes wants Grace Padaca to remain as commissioner rather than be transferred to the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
In an interview with radio dzMM on Saturday, Brillantes said: “I asked her if the rumors are true. She said she does not know and even asked me if I was the one who was spreading the rumors. I told her, I would want that you be reappointed here.”
Padaca’s reappointment as Comelec commissioner has yet to be approved by President Benigno Aquino III.
Padaca has to be reappointed since the Commission on Appointments already adjourned without giving credence to her confirmation. Aquino has before the opening of Congress, or on July 28, to reappoint her.
Quoting sources, the Philippine Star reported that Aquino is eyeing a post for Padaca at the DILG.
But Brillantes said: “I would like it if she is reappointed so that the commission can run smoothly.”
He said is “very happy” with Padaca’s performance, adding that “she is doing very well.”
The Comelec will be left with only three members – Padaca excluded – once Brillantes and two others will retire in February 2015.
