MANILA - The Philippine General Hospital (PGH) has sent a team of medical experts to the Sandiganbayan to check on the health of Senator Juan Ponce Enrile.

The Sandiganbayan Third Division gave the PGH three days within which to comply with its directive to examine Enrile. The team of experts immediately went to the court on Thursday morning.

PGH spokesman Dr. Jose Joven Cruz said a vascular expert, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, urologist, geriatrician, and endocrinologist were tasked by the hospital to examine Enrile.

He said the team will coordinate with Enrile’s personal doctors and those from the Philippine National Police General Hospital to determine what tests are still needed.

The court on Wednesday said it won’t issue yet a ruling on Enrile’s plea to be placed under hospital arrest until the PGH experts determine his health status.

The state hospital is ordered to submit a report if “there is an imperative need for the continued confinement of (Enrile) in a government hospital,” the court said. – from a report by Jing Castaneda, ABS-CBN News
