Gigi Reyes moved to Bicutan jail
MANILA - Lawyer Gigi Reyes, one of the accused in the multibillion-peso pork barrel scam, was brought to Camp Bagong Diwa in Bicutan late Wednesday night where she will be detained.
The Sandiganbayan earlier denied Reyes' request to be transferred to the Philippine National Police Custodial Center at Camp Crame where her co-accused in the pork barrel scam plunder case are detained.
The anti-graft court ordered that Reyes, who had been detained in a cell at the Sandiganbayan's basement, be transferred to the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology's (BJMP) female dormitory at Camp Bagong Diwa, where maximum security inmates are held.
Reyes is Enrile's former chief of staff.
Medical exam for Enrile
The Sandiganbayan Third Division, meanwhile, has ordered the director of the Philippine National Police General Hospital (PGH) in Camp Crame to examine Enrile following the senator's motion to be granted hospital detention.
In a minute resolution, the Sandiganbayan said it does not possess the necessary competence to check on the medical condition of the 90-year-old senator.
Instead, the anti-graft court ordered PNP General Hospital director Jose C. Gonzales or any of his representatives to conduct a medical examination of Enrile and submit a report to the Sandiganbayan on whether there is an "imperative need of the continued confinement of the accused in a government hospital, within three days from notice."
It said the PNP General Hospital chief or his representative must appear before the Sandiganbayan Third Division on July 14, 1:30 p.m.
The court said Enrile can stay at the PNP General Hospital until the division rules on his motion.
The hospital is also granted authority to let Enrile access another medical facility outside Camp Crame in case of emergency and necessity.
Enrile earlier asked the court to allow his continued to stay at the hospital, saying he is already 90 years old and not a flight risk.
Enrile is facing plunder and graft charges before the anti-graft court for allegedly pocketing millions of pesos in pork barrel kickbacks. He was ordered arrested last Friday after the court found probable cause to indict him.,
Enrile was allowed to leave twice over the weekend for eye treatments without which, Enrile's camp said, he could go blind.
The Public Attorney's Office has said all senior citizens in jail who are not in the best of health should be given preferential treatment. - with reports from Zandro Ochona, dzMM; David Dizon, ABS-CBNnews.com; ANC
