MANILA - Senator Bam Aquino is lukewarm to the idea of Charter change, saying it can be done but only after a few more years and after the country has achieved inclusive economic growth.
Aquino, cousin of President Benigno Aquino III, said many countries have grown their economies even without changing the ownership structure of their business investments.
Aquino made the comments as he was introduced as the newest member of the civil society group Kaya Natin Movement, which added new "champions" of good governance to its roster of role models for those in public service.
KM convenor Harvey Keh introduced Senators Bam Aquino and Koko Pimentel, Representative Sherwin Tugna, Daet (Camarines Norte) Mayor Tito Sarion, and Kauswagan (Lanao del Norte) Mayor Rommel Arnado as among the new champions.
Aquino and Pimentel welcomed their addition to the line-up.
Aquino said he and Keh were schoolmates and have been working together a long time.
Pimentel thanked the movement for supporting his bid for another term as senator in the last election.
KM member Rep. Jorge Banal also welcomed the new members.
In the past, the KM Movement counted the likes of former Pampanga Governor Ed Panlilio, the late DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo and now Commission on Elections commissioner Grace Padaca as convenors. The picture of the 3 even hung as a backdrop in the group's gathering.
