MANILA - A Palace spokesman on Tuesday remained cryptic about the non-renewal of the ad interim appointment of Commission on Elections (Comelec) Commissioner Grace Padaca.
Padaca's appointment expired when Congress adjourned sine die in June without the Commission on Appointments confirming her appointment as required by the constitution.
"We have verified that no new appointment has been issued as of now; and according to the Constitution, bypassed appointees may be given new appointments while Congress is in recess. In recess pa naman ang Congress sa ngayon," Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said.
Asked if there has been a decision about her appointment, he said; "We still have no information on that."
Padaca has not been confirmed by the CA. Her appointment has been hounded by her graft case before the Sandiganbayan, for which Aquino helped her post bail.
Padaca also reportedly failed to file her statement of assets, liabilities and net worth as Isabela governor. Padaca was a member of the Liberal Party prior to her appointment to the Comelec.
