MANILA - Former president Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is asking the Sandiganbayan to allow her to attend the 50th wedding anniversary of El Shaddai founder and leader Bro. Mike Velarde and his wife, Belen.
In her motion before the Sandiganbayan, Mrs. Arroyo said she has been invited by the celebrators to be one of the principal sponsors at the event. The wedding anniversary celebration will be held at Amvel City in San Dionisio, Paranaque on July 18, 3 p.m.
The other principal sponsors are former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, House Speaker Sonny Belmonte and former First Lady Imelda Marcos.
Arroyo described Velarde as a "close friend" and one of her spiritual advisers.
Arroyo was recently suspended as congresswoman of Pampanga's 2nd District for graft charges filed against her in connection with the botched deal between the National Broadband Network (NBN) and Chinese telecommunications firm, ZTE Corp.
She is under hospital arrest at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) for a separate case of plunder in connection with the alleged misuse of Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds.
