MANILA - A Palace official said there will be more raids against suspected rice hoarders as the government moves to curb soaring rice prices.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said, “Hoarders have been warned. Are we going after people who take advantage or create artificial increases in prices? Yes, we are going after you guys.”
Lacierda said the Philippine National Police (PNP) has been tapped for the purpose.
“It was coordinated with the [Department of Interior and Local Government]-PNP. That’s the reason why it was discussed… [Presidential Assistant for Food Security] Secretary (Francis) Pangilinan and Secretary Mar Roxas discussed the strategy of ensuring that no hoarders escape,” he said.
Lacierda also explained why Roxas was present during the raid.
“That’s the reason why, for the first time, you see hoarders being arrested.”
