Arrest warrants vs Enrile, 25 others out
MANILA – The Sandiganbayan has released the arrest warrants for Senator Juan Ponce Enrile and 25 other individuals for the separate graft charges in connection with the pork barrel scam.
Sandiganbayan Third Division clerk of court Dennis Pulma said arrest warrants for the graft charges have been released against Enrile, his former chief of staff and alleged paramour Gigi Reyes, Janet Lim Napoles, Ronald John Lim, John Raymund de Asis, and 21 others.
Enrile, Reyes, Napoles, Lim, and de Asis were ordered arrested Friday by the anti-graft court for a plunder charge in connection with the scam.
Enrile surrendered to the Philippine National Police (PNP) on the same day.
For her part, Reyes surrendered to the Sandiganbayan also on Friday. She is currently detained at the anti-graft court's basement detention facility.
Napoles, the alleged brains of the scam, is currently detained in Fort Sto. Domingo for a separate illegal detention case filed by pork barrel scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
Lim is the nephew of Napoles, while de Asis is Napoles' employee. Both remain at large.
Pulma said the issuance of arrest warrants for 12 of the 49 charged with graft has been deferred, as the anti-graft court waits for more pieces of evidence in their alleged participation in the scam.
Eleven of the respondents have already posted bail, Pulma noted.
Enrile is accused of amassing P172 million in pork barrel kickbacks.
Two other senators, Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla, are also detained for their alleged links to the P10 billion pork barrel scam. – with a report from Jon Ibañez, dzMM
