MANILA - The top leaders of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) now detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center said the sacked warden, Supt. Mario Malana, is just a sacrificial lamb of top officials.
“Relief from post diverts attention and ultimate responsibility from reported arrangement by PNP superiors and mercenary politicians w/ high-maintenance celebrity detainees. Benefit of int'l minimum standards and treatment of prisoners - not undue suffering - must equitably apply to all, high and low, favored or persecuted,” said Benito and Wilma Tiamzon.
Malana was relieved from his post for supposedly allowing Senator Jinggoy Estrada to hold a party from Saturday until the wee hours of Sunday.
The Tiamzons and 53 other detainees earlier signed a manifesto in defense of Malana.
The detainees, including former Maguindanao election supervisor Lintang Bedol and Supt. Hansel Marantan, demanded the transfer of Estrada and Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. to another detention facility.
