MANILA - Former President and now Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada on Monday said the jailing of his son, Senator Jinggoy Estrada, for plunder and graft charges has affected the entire family.
Estrada said his wife and Jinggoy's mom, Dra. Luisa "Loi" Ejercito, has been most affected by the situation.
"Halos di makausap. Laging may hawak na rosaryo. Luha ng luha," he said in an interview on ABS-CBN's Umagang Kay Ganda.
He said his wife underwent the same pain when he was also incarcerated on plunder charges in 2001.
Estrada said he feels saddened by the effect of Jinggoy's incarceration to the senator's family.
"Naaawa nga ako. Iba na ang ngiti niya. Malungkot siyempre," he said.
The former president said he is convinced the case filed against his son was rushed, which is why Ombudsman prosecutors wanted to amend the charges.
Last Friday, the special prosecution panel from the Office of the Ombudsman withdrew its motion amending the plunder charges against Estrada after the Sandiganbayan fifth division warned the court may recall an earlier finding of probable cause.
The younger Estrada is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center.
