MANILA, Philippines - The local church of Ozamiz has defended Archbishop Jesus Dosado for supposedly receiving a Mitsubishi Pajero from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO).
In a report from the CBCP News, Immaculate Conception Cathedral Parish Rev. Fr. Marvin Osmeña said Dosado is not one of the recipients earlier mentioned by the PCSO.
PCSO Chair Margarita Juico had claimed former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo gave 6 or 7 Mitsubishi Pajeros to bishops before she stepped down from office to get their support.
A news report said Dosado owns a gray Pajero, which is supposedly often used by the Church-run radio dxDD.
Station manager Fr. Edgar Canama also denied the same. “Since time immemorial dxDD stations have not used a Pajero from the bishop in all our operations.”
Wendell Talibong, dxDD-AM production head and Catholic Faith Defender (CFD) National Vice-president, said the issue is being used by the Aquino administration as a diversionary tactic of sorts.
He said Dosado is a vocal critic against the Reproductive Health and Divorce bills.
Talibong noted the station does not even accept offers from the PCSO. Advertisements from the agency are even banned from airing, he said.
“Airing PCSO advertisements is tantamount to promoting the culture of gambling which is against the official teaching of the Catholic Church,” he added.
