MANILA, Philippines - It is best to just abolish the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago said.
On the sidelines of the induction of officers of the Credit Management Association of the Philippines, Inc., Santiago said the JBC was created to keep politics out of the screening process.
She said JBC has failed to fulfill this mandate. The Senate, through the Commission on Appointments, should just be the one to select who to recommend for positions to the judiciary, she added.
Santiago also does not believe having a live coverage of the JBC's interviews for the chief justice nominees will help in choosing the best one.
She said some candidates may be brilliant but are introverts. As such, they may not be able to project themselves well before the cameras.
She added the live coverage may not be a good way to gauge if a nominee is experienced or not. – from a report by Jing Castaneda, ABS-CBN News
