MANILA, Philippines (UPDATE) - Sen. Franklin Drilon has declined his nomination to be chief justice of the Supreme Court.
"It's more fun in the Senate," the 67-year-old senator told reporters in a briefing on Thursday.
Drilon said that although he is humbled by the nomination, he has a mandate from millions of Filipinos who voted for him.
He stressed that he intends to finish his term, and by the time he does, he will be past the mandatory retirement age for SC justices.
"I like my work in the Senate. I feel I will be of better service to the country," Drilon said.
