Palace defends word war with GMA
MANILA, Philippines - Malacañang defended Tuesday its ongoing exchanges with the camp of former President and now Pampanga 2nd District Rep. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said they appreciate the efforts of Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte and Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay in discussing the performance of the administration.
“Napapakita natin diskurso nagagawa nang walang tirahan. We truly appreciate, we recognize the defense made for President Arroyo and we recognize the efforts of Undersecretary Valte. That’s a level headed discussion. You cannot avoid that we prefer that rather than hitting on personalities," he said.
This was in reference to a Twitter debate between the 2 over the weekend concerning the Aquino administration’s flood control projects.
Lacierda, however, sees no immediate end to the exchanges between the 2 camps.
“Rep. Magsaysay will keep on hitting the Aquino administration. All we have to do is enlighten good congresswoman. At least lines are open between Abigail Valte and her. I don’t know where it will lead," he said.
Lacierda took in stride Magsaysay’s compliment for Valte, where she said she prefers Valte to Lacierda because the latter is emotional.
“That’s a compliment for me. They like me. If your opposition hates you enough to say it in public that’s means I'm doing my job, I take that as a compliment. I thank Mitos...”
Meanwhile, both Arroyo and Aquino seemed to cool down today.
In a statement released early Tuesday morning, Arroyo’s acting spokesperson Maite Defensor said, “ Former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo did not even say that President Aquino is her exact opposite. But learning what the President said, she will not even dignify it with a comment.”
Defensor was sought for comment after Aquino thanked Arroyo for supposedly pointing out they are opposites.
Lacierda, for his part said, “Di siya nagcomment. Nagpapasalamat lang. That’s a decent response based on what he’s seen and heard.”
