‘Bishops who got Pajeros should disclose donations'

MANILA, Philippines - Bishop Teodoro Bacani is calling on the bishops who allegedly got Mitsubishi Pajeros from the administration of former President Gloria Arroyo to come out in the open.

He said they should clarify to the public if the vehicle was given as a personal gift or something for the use of their respective dioceses.

Bacani said he has no idea as to who allegedly got the vehicles from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO), but admitted that it is one of the institutions where the Church gets donations.

PCSO Chair Margarita Juico claimed Arroyo had given 6 or 7 Mitsubishi Pajeros to bishops before she stepped down from office to get their support.

As a policy, CBCP does not accept donations from institutionalized gambling, he said.

Bacani suspects, this could be a part of a grand plan to discredit the church and attack its credibility. But he declined to identify who could be behind the alleged plan.

Bacani said.
