MANILA - A Palace spokesman deplored the heckling President Aquino received at an event in Iloilo City earlier today.
Presidential Spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said the President always makes it a point to be accessible to the people and one of them is through events such as the one in Iloilo.
"It is regrettable when some people try to lower the public discourse by merely engaging in shouting matches," he said.
Today was the second incident of heckling against Aquino recently.
He was also heckled while delivering an Independence Day speech at Naga City.
Aquino is not the only public official to be heckled.
Former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo was also heckled at a speaking engagement in Laguna while US Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama were also heckled at different events.
Bush was heckled in an Independence Day speech in 2008 while Obama was heckled in a speech last May.
Just recently, a heckler threw a shoe at former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton during the speaking engagement.
