MANILA - Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is in favor of giving humanitarian considerations for Senate Minority Leader Juan Ponce Enrile in the event of his arrest, saying that the 90-year-old senator is not a flight risk.

"Siguro naman. I think so. Because he is really in need of constant medical attention. He's 90 years old. So as long as that can be provided for him, then that's okay… I don't think he's a flight risk at this point in time so I hope the court does consider it. Ang ugali naman ng Pilipino is to show compassion. Maybe this is another opportunity for us to express our culture in that way," he said in an interview.

Marcos steered clear of any talk that Enrile and other senators being detained for their alleged links to the pork barrel scam are being given special treatment.

He said the rooms or detention cells being shown on television "look like regular cells."

"Siguro baka pininturahan lang ng konti. I don't think that they are any special privileges being given them. Siguro naman lahat ng tao ay nakabantay. I don't think that the PNP, aside from the usual procedures, is doing anything 'special' or 'VIP' treatment para sa kanila," he said.

He also admitted that of the three senators, he has known Enrile the longest.

Enrile was defense secretary during the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos, father of Senator Marcos.

"I have worked with Sen. Enrile when we were congressmen. He was a Cabinet Secretary during my father's time. Yun ang aming relationship. Iba iba ang relasyon namin, because we have different exposures. But of course you cannot work in the same place for four years without having some kind of relationship. Like all the other senators, you have done things together. You watch each other in the Senate. Of course, we have a relationship. I hope I can call them friends, because good relationships are important - para maayos ang patakbo dito sa Senado. You try to promote that, and I think I have done that with all three," he said.

President Aquino earlier said he doesn't mind giving humanitarian considerations to Senator Enrile if he is ordered detained for the pork barrel scam.

For starters, Aquino noted that Enrile is 90 years old. He recalled that when they were both in the Senate, Enrile had problems reading.
