MANILA - Pope Francis has “high hopes” for the Catholic Church in the Philippines, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle said.
Tagle, who just arrived from Rome where he took possession of a titular church, said the supreme Pontiff expressed his hope that the Catholic Church will have a good future here.
In a report from the CBCP News, Tagle also quoted Pope Francis as saying that Filipinos should further strengthen their faith as well as deepen their devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary.
“You should move forward, go forward in faith, especially through your devotion to the Madonna,” Tagle quoted Pope Francis as saying.
“For the Holy Father, advancing in faith is connected to our true devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary that leads to the zeal in our mission,” Tagle also said.
The Pope also thanked anew the Filipinos for their support, he said. The Pope also sought more prayers for himself, he said.
“He expressed his gratitude and said, ‘please pray for me.’ You can truly sense his sincerity and humility in asking, ‘pray for me,” Tagle said.
