MANILA - President Benigno Aquino III has appointed a new justice who will complete the division that will try the plunder and graft charges against Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
In a statement, Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma Jr. said Manila Trial Court Judge Ma. Theresa Dolores Gomez-Estoesta has been appointed Associate Justice to replace Amparo Cabotaje-Tang, who has moved on as Presiding Justice of the anti-graft court.
The appointment was signed on June 20.
A law graduate from Ateneo de Manila, Estoesta also served as presiding judge in the Manila metropolitan trial court. She also served at the Solicitor General's office from 1991 to 2002.
The fifth division, where Estoesta is expected to sit, is chaired by Associate Justice Roland Jurado. Associate Justice Alexander Gesmundo is a member while Associate Justice Alex Quiroz is a proxy.
Estrada earlier said he will put his faith in the Sandiganbayan even if members are appointed by the administration.
