MANILA - Senator Joseph Victor "JV" Ejercito on Monday shared his sentiments on the arrest of his half-brother, Senator Jinggoy Estrada.
In a reply to a Twitter user, Ejercito said: "My brother and I don't get along well but I know how painful it is specially for his family."
He also told a radio interview that he experienced the pain of seeing a loved one in jail when his own father, former President Joseph Estrada, was incarcerated on plunder charges in 2001.
Senator Estrada surrendered to police authorities on Monday after the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division issued a warrant for his arrest.
Last week, Estrada said he was hurt that his stepbrother, Ejercito, signed the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee report on the pork barrel scam.
Ejercito later explained that he signed the report with reservation because he was not convinced it was complete report. "It should tackle the entire pork barrel scam, including other bogus non-government organizations and not just those connected to Janet Napoles," he said.
For his part, former president Estrada said Ejercito did the right thing in signing the report.
"I think so...In a way, yes, but his signing there hurt Jinggoy," he said.
Meanwhile, Malacañang said the issuance of the arrest warrant against Estrada is a step forward in finding the truth, which would help strengthen the public's trust in institutions and processes.
The Palace asked Filipinos to remain vigilant as the pork barrel scam goes to the courts.
