MANILA - President Aquino would rather focus on the 743 days left in his term instead of the 2016 elections, a Palace spokesman said Tuesday.

Communications Secretary Sonny Coloma said the President did not sanction the privileged speech of Congressman Edgar Erice, which called for the resignation of Vice-President Jejomar Binay from the Cabinet due to his alleged disloyalty.

Coloma said Aquino and Binay have a very cordial relationship.

"We have to make a distinction between what a member of Congress says while availing of privilege speech and the President. There's really a clear distinction," he said.

For his part, Erice said his call for Binay to resign from the Aquino Cabinet is his own campaign and is not sanctioned by Malacanang. He also said he has not been instructed by President Aquino to stop his call.
