MANILA - Following the raffling off of the pork barrel cases, Senator Jinggoy Estrada is confident that he would be acquitted of the charges against him as he again expressed his trust that the Sandiganbayan will decide on his case fairly.
The case of Estrada was raffled off to the division chaired by Associate Justice Roland Jurado who was appointed by former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
Estrada said he does not personally know Jurado.
“Whether Justice Jurado is an appointee of PNoy or not, I hope and pray the Sandigan will dispose fair justice... Kung patas sila, in a fair play, I will acquitted of all the charges,” Estrada said.
“Whether may utang na loob kay President, I think they should exercise fair play. Wala naman akong kakilala dyan e. Ang kilala ko lang ang inappoint ng tatay ko noong araw pa. Isa lang naman ang kakilala ko doon e… si Justice Ong, which nag-inhibit.”
“I don’t know him (Jurado). Basta magdadasal lang ako na patas lang ang laban.”
Estrada again expressed his readiness to face arrest, saying he will not leave the country.
“Hindi naman ako aalis. So isyuhan ako ng warrant ngayon, pupunta na ako ngayon. Kung after one week pa, e di hintayin ko,” he said.
The lawyer of Senator Bong Revilla also expects a fair trial, saying that the appointment of a justice by a sitting president should not be a factor in the case.
“Should that be a factor in a justice sitting in a case which I will be handling? No. I don’t think that is a factor because kaming mga lawyers we rely on the strength of our case, the strength of the evidence that we have and the strength on our faith in the judicial system,” he said.
Meantime, Estrada noted that the creation of special division usually results in the conviction of the accused, citing the cases of Japanese wartime general Tomoyuki Yamashita, Senator Ninoy Aquino and former President Joseph Estrada.
“Pagka special division maha-handpick ang justices e. Ang pag-create ng special division, even if you look at history, lahat ng mga special divison, kino-convict nila ang mga accused e,” he said.
