Ex-UP Law dean accepts CJ nomination

MANILA, Philippines – The former dean of the College of Law of the University of the Philippines has accepted the nomination to the Chief Justice post.

Dean Raul Pangalangan’s name was submitted by current UP Law Dean, Danilo Concepcion.

Pangalangan is the fifth Supreme Court outsider to be nominated for the post.

The others are Commissioner Kim Henares of the Bureau of Internal Revenue, Atty. Katrina Legarda, Solicitor General Francis Jardeleza and former Ateneo Law School dean, Cesar Villanueva.

Meanwhile, five most senior Supreme Court justices are automatically nominated to the post. They are Acting Chief Justice Antonio Carpio, Associate Justices Presbetero Velasco Jr., Teresita Leonardo-de Castro, Arturo Brion and Diosdado Peralta. -- Report from ANC
