Bong: Where is fairness?
Bong to deliver privilege speech on Monday
MANILA - Senator Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. said he can now only cling to God after supposedly failing to see fairness from the Office of the Ombudsman, which on Friday filed plunder charges against him before the Sandiganbayan over the pork barrel scam.
"Nakakalungkot. Talagang hinahanap natin yung fairness, hinahanap natin yung due process. Dahil puro ito kasinungalingan," Revilla told radio dzMM on Saturday.
He said he and his colleagues -- Senators Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile -- have been victims of "trial by publicity" and "political persecution" for over a year now.
"Kaya ang talagang kapit na lang namin ngayon ang Panginoon," he said.
The Ombudsman on Friday afternoon formally filed before the Sandiganbayan plunder charges against the three senators and Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged mastermind of the scheme.
Revilla allegedly plundered P242 million; Estrada, P183 million; and Enrile, P172 million.
Also included in the charge sheet are Revilla's staff Richard Cambe, Estrada's former staff Pauline Labayen, Enrile's former chief of staff Jessica "Gigi" Reyes, Ronald John Lim, and John Raymund de Asis.
Their cases will be raffled off next week, after which the Sandiganbayan division which will handle the cases is expected to issue an arrest order for the respondents.
"Kung gusto niyo kaming arestuhin, arestuhin niyo na po kami, ngayon na. Tama na po yung pananakot," Revilla said.
He said the damage has already been done to him and his family such that even if he will be able to prove his innocence in the case, "papaano mo pa ibabalik ang pangalang winasak nila?"
"Yun ang masakit," he said.
On Monday, June 9, Revilla will deliver a privilege speech before the Senate.
He appealed to the public to listen to what he has to say and not to quickly judge him and the others charged over the multibillion-peso pork barrel scandal.
"Ilalabas ko po ang katotohan. Bigyan niyo lang po kami ng pagkakataon na mailahad namin ang aming panig at huwag kami agad husgahan," he said.
