MANILA, Philippines - Justice Sec. Leila De Lima, an ex-officio member of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), believes the rules of the council have to be amended to accommodate the clamor for live media coverage of its proceedings, deliberations, and public interviews.
"Wala pa yun sa rules. The only way is to amend the rules," she said.
Under current JBC practices, all its deliberations are conducted in executive session (closed-door). While the public and mediamen are welcome during the public interviews of candidates for posts in the Judiciary, audio and video recorders are prohibited.
Some sectors are calling on the live telecast of JBC proceedings, especially in its search for the next Chief Justice.
