MANILA - Cabinet Secretaries Proceso Alcala and Butch Abad might resign if they are affected by claims of corruption and calls from various groups for their resignation, Deputy Speaker Sergio Apostol said Tuesday.
Apostol, a party-mate of Alcala and Abad in the Liberal Party, said stepping down from office is a personal decision, and cited Japanese officials who go as far committing suicide when accused of wrongdoings.
The congressman believes there is no sense in pressuring the two to resign since, in the end, it will be their decision.
Civil society groups are planning to stage protest actions on June 15 to call for their resignation.
Abad is accused of allegedly teaching Napoles how to use non-government organizations to get priority development assistance funds.
Napoles, meanwhile, has said Alcala signed documents for the list of pork barrel funds to her foundations.
Both officials have denied the allegations.
