Palace denies role in Enrile bloc meeting
MANILA, Philippines - Malacanang said Thursday it had nothing to do with a reported meeting of the Enrile bloc ahead of Chief Justice Renato Corona's conviction.
In a press conference, Deputy Presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said she sees nothing wrong when blocs meet.
Senator Loren Legarda told the Philippine Daily Inquirer on Wednesday that the fate of Corona was already decided Sunday night.
She said she and Senator Jinggoy Estrada called on a secret meeting at a posh subdivision in Makati to discuss the matter.
In attendance were Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile and Senators Vicente Sotto III, Gregorio Honasan II, Ramon Revilla Jr. and Manuel Villar.
Enrile showed reporters yesterday a list that he said he made in March grouping the senator-judges based on their votes.
He then predicted that only Senators Joker Arroyo, Miriam Santiago and Ferdinand Marcos Jr. would vote for acquittal.
