MANILA, Philippines - The Supreme Court has yet to determine if it will give a retirement ceremony to ousted Chief Justice Renato Corona, a high court official said Thursday.

A send-off will depend on the decision of Corona and his former colleagues in the high tribunal, according to Atty. Victoria Gleoresty Guerra, acting spokesperson of the Supreme Court.

"It depends on Corona, we can't really say because this is the first time it happened," she said.

Magistrates also usually give speeches during an en banc session for colleagues who are leaving the bench.

"Usually binibigyan sila ng isang portrait tapos noon, may mga memorabilia din," Guerra said.

However, Corona may not be given the same privilege because he was impeached and removed from his post.

Aside from his removal from office, Corona is also disqualified from serving in any public post, elective or appointive.

The Supreme Court will discuss during a regular en banc session in June if Corona is still entitled to his retirement benefits. - report from Niko Baua, ABS-CBN News; ANC
