MANILA - Embattled Laguna Governor ER Ejercito failed to get immediate relief from the Supreme Court to stop the Commission on Elections (Comelec) from booting him out of office.
Instead, the high court merely asked the poll body to comment on his petition before coming to a decision.
In a text message to reporters, SC Spokesman Theodore Te said the high court ordered the Comelec to respond within 10 days from notice.
In his petition, Ejercito said the Comelec went beyond its duty since the complaint against him was only for initiation of criminal proceedings for violating election laws, particularly election overspending.
The Comelec proceeded to swear in Vice Governor Ramil Hernandez on Tuesday afternoon.
