MANILA - The Sandiganbayan denied the appeal of former President Gloria Arroyo that she be allowed to post bail.
In a decision by the Sandiganbayan First Division, the court said that "no bail can be allowed" for the former President who is facing plunder charges for the alleged misuse of P366 million in Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) funds.
The court said its earlier resolution dated April 21 denying bail to the former President "should not be reconsidered."
The court said that the cases used by the defense, the Montano and the Hernandez cases, cannot be applied to the former President's case.
In the Montano case, there was no strong evidence, and in the Hernandez case, the case was downgraded.
The court also said that it has found the "existence of strong evidence" against the former President.
