MANILA -- For Vice President Jejomar Binay, the country's next president should not just have competence and expertise, but “executive experience.”

In a statement, Binay said: “’Yong iba, may mga experience e. Pero ang pinag-uusapan natin dito, ‘yong experience and competence as an executive.

He also clarified that he was not referring to anyone when he made a statement last week on the need for the next leader to primarily have competence.

“Wala akong pinapatamaan. Wala naman akong tinutukoy do’n. That’s how I present myself as a candidate for president by 2016,” he said.

Senator Grace Poe twitted Binay last week, saying honesty and integrity are paramount over experience.

The newbie senator, whose name is slowly inching up in presidential surveys, went on to say that Binay should be transparent in answering all corruption allegations against him.

Poe also thumbed down a possible tandem with Binay in 2016, saying they have different leadership aims. It was Binay’s daughter, Makati Rep. Abigail Binay, broached the idea of a tandem with Poe.

Binay said the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has already put up a screening committee to recommend a running mate and that they are still assessing several personalities.

Kino-consider pa lang,” he said.
