MANILA, Philippines - Progressive party-list groups and an election lawyer is pressing the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to proclaim the winners of the party-list elections.
Anakpawis party-list Rep. Rafael Mariano supported the call of Makabayan Coalition and Bayan Muna urging Comelec to proclaim winning party-list groups.
"It is in the interest of marginalized social sectors that the winning party-lists be proclaimed now," the solon said in a press conference this morning at Intramuros, Manila.
Anakpawis claims it is one of the winning party-list groups in the 2013 mid-term elections. Based on the canvassed COCs, Anakpawis garnered 319, 328 votes or equivalent to one seat in the House of Representatives based on Makabayan Coalition's computation of votes and projected distribution of seats based on 101 COCs canvassed.
Meanwhile, election lawyer Romulo Macalintal said Comelec should expedite the canvass of party-list votes to stop the proliferation of syndicates approaching party-list groups with offers to manipulate the election results.
