MANILA, Philippines - Presidential political adviser Ronald Llamas on Wednesday said Chief Justice Renato Corona is only "looking for someone else to blame" to fend off the allegations made against him in his impeachment trial.
Corona, during his statement before the Senate impeachment court Tuesday, accused Llamas of having President Benigno Aquino under his control, amid the alleged takeover by leftists in the government.
"Tila hawak ni Ronald Llamas at kanyang mga kakosa ang leeg ng Pangulo," Corona claimed.
Llamas shrugged off the chief justice's allegation.
"While I suppose I should be flattered that he attributed so much influence to me,which is so untrue, the obvious motivation behind that statement is to once again attribute the dire straits he finds himself in to a supposed 'conspiracy,'" he said in a text message.
"What he refuses to accept is that he stands on the brink of conviction, and possibly further prosecution, because of his own actions," he added. - report from Willard Cheng, ABS-CBN News
