MANILA - Senator JV Ejercito is ruling out becoming the running mate of Vice President Jejomar Binay in 2016, saying that running for a higher post in the next elections is "farthest" from his mind.

He also dismissed the possibility in jest.

"Okay na ako dito. I am already happy. It's already a privilege and an honor to become a senator. We're only 24 privileged people all over the country. So to get here is already something. With regard to baka ako ang pipiliin ni Vice President Binay, baka hindi. Pareho kaming kulay, baka hindi kami makita pareho," he said.

Ejercito said the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has not discussed potential candidates to become Binay's running mate.

He said that it is "most likely" that Binay's running mate may also come from another political party that would coalesce with the UNA.

"Probably, there would be political alliances, magkaroon ng merger of parties. Probably, that party would demand that they get the VP position. Malamang ganoon kaya malabong mangyari na taga-UNA rin ang maging VP candidate," Ejercito said.
