Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte announced Monday that he will ban extravagant trips of government officials.

In his first press conference as the apparent winner of the presidential race, Duterte said he will prohibit seminars that will require public officials from the province to travel to Manila.

"Iyung mga seminar-seminar cost a lot of money... To tell you, it's pure junket so no more seminars na iyung mga tao pupunta ng Maynila," he remarked.

Duterte added that seminar lecturers should instead be the ones to troop to local venues.

The presumptive President also voiced disapproval of Lakbay-Aral or educational trips, which he said are being abused by some officials.

An irked Duterte said he knows one government official who traveled to Hong Kong at the expense of public funds.

"I almost fell off my chair -- Hong Kong? Lakbay-Aral? Magkain ka ng pansit doon? You must be crazy," he said.
