MANILA - Malacanang is urging discussions on the freedom of information (FOI) bill now languishing in Congress.
“The freedom of information bill needs to be discussed because it will affect everyone. A healthy discussion will lead to a better product. So we believe that FOI is moving. I understand Undersecretary Manolo Quezon has been invited as a resource person. And based on his discussions, it has been moving faster than the previous Congress,” Presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said.
He said some lawmakers are also considering the government's open data initiative as part of the FOI.
Malacanang earlier launched the Open Data Philippines, which allows the public to access an array of government data.
President Aquino's administration has yet to make the FOI bill a top legislative priority.
