Hearing on Napoles' extended OsMak stay reset to May 15
MANILA - The Makati Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 150 has reset the Wednesday hearing on the petition of alleged pork barrel scam mastermind Janet Lim Napoles for an extended stay at the Ospital ng Makati (OsMak).
According to Makati RTC Branch 150 Judge Elmo Alameda, the camp of Napoles had no documents or testimonies to prove that the businesswoman still needs to stay in the hospital.
The hearing was reset to Thursday, 2 p.m.
Alameda summoned Napoles' doctors as well as OsMak director Ishmael Peralta to shed light on the current medical condition of Napoles.
Napoles' lawyer, Bruce Rivera, told the court that they will present obstetrician-gynecologist Dr. Elsie Badillo-Pascua, one of the doctors who conducted the operation to remove the tumor in Napoles' uterus last April 23.
Rivera argued it would be cheaper if Napoles stays in the hospital since doctors could easily conduct the follow-up check-ups on her.
This is instead of spending hundreds of thousands of pesos for the transportation of Napoles from Fort Sto. Domingo in Sta. Rosa, Laguna to OsMak, he said.
Alameda, however, pointed out that it would be cheaper if Napoles' doctors go to Fort Sto. Domingo instead, where she is detained for a serious illegal detention case filed by pork scam whistleblower Benhur Luy.
Alameda said he will decide tomorrow whether or not to grant the petition of Napoles. -- Reports from Doris Bigornia, ABS-CBN News; Henry Atuelan, dzMM
