MANILA - House Speaker Feliciano Belmonte’s resolution calling for amendments to the economic provisions of the Constitution has reached the plenary.
House committee on constitutional amendments chairperson Mylene Garcia-Albano forwarded the resolution with a note seeking the plenary’s approval.
The development came late Tuesday, amid protests from militant groups.
Belmonte’s resolution provides for the insertion of the words “unless otherwise provided by law” into the economic provisions.
Albano explained Congress will have the power to make the economic provisions more expansive, if needed.
Pro-charter change advocates say it is about time that the economic provisions are liberalized to allow more foreign investments to come in and create more jobs. – from a report by Jon Ibanez, dzMM
