MANILA, Philippines - The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA) has named five candidates in its senatorial line-up so far, contrary to what was proclaimed by a member.
In a statement, UNA spokesman JV Bautista said the coalition has "officially named five candidates."
They are: Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel and Jose de Venecia III from PDP-Laban, Juan "Jackie" Ponce Enrile and JV Ejercito from Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, as well as Senator Gregorio Honasan.
“There are nine remaining slots and UNA is faced with a happy dilemma: we have more than nine names under consideration. The final list will be released officially by the UNA secretariat, chaired by Secretary-General Toby Tiangco, at the proper time,” Bautista said.
He added: “Lists or names mentioned by personalities outside the UNA secretariat are only speculative.”
Former Senate President Ernesto Maceda told dzMM yesterday that UNA has already more or less completed its line-up for 2013.
Besides the five mentioned by Bautista, Maceda said the list includes also: senators Loren Legarda and Chiz Escudero, former senators Juan Miguel Zubiri and Richard Gordon; Zambales Rep. Mitos Magsaysay; Valenzuela Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian and Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.
Maceda said he is also included.
In an earlier interview, former President Joseph Estrada said Maceda is not authorized to speak for UNA.
