MANILA, Philippines - Former First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo returned to the Philippines Thursday night after his trip to Japan and Hong Kong.
Arroyo arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 at exactly 6:40 p.m. on board Cathay Pacific Airlines flight CX 903.
He arrived in Manila after several days of an official business trip to Japan and Hong Kong that the Sandiganbayan allowed.
"To those who were saying that I will never return, well I'm back," Arroyo said.
He said his trip was not successful because a Japanese investor who allegedly planned to put up an electric power company in the country is reportedly backing out due to the current state of the nation.
Arroyo refused to elaborate but claimed that investors are aware of what is happening in the Philippines and the entire Asian region.
He was welcomed by a lone security escort at the airport's baggage conveyor area.
Arroyo said he will visit his wife, former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, at the hospital where she is currently detained.
